Nazdeek recently wrote and published two articles about the colonial legacy on tea plantations in Assam. In the Ethical Trading Initiative, we comment on the World Bank’s Compliance Advisor Ombudsman’s findings of labour abuses on Assam tea plantations that the Bank co-owns with Tata, and what this means for tea workers. In the Bretton Woods Observer, we discuss how despite an investment by the International Finance Corporation, very little has changed in Assam’s tea gardens since colonial times.
